Job title: Principal PHP developer

Being mentored by: Polish branch CTO, who successfully assembled a team of 15 in his previous role for a California based startup, as well as a lean and agile guru (who is also the group CTO).

Business area: Technology

So, who are ucreate?

ucreate is a unique technology company on a mission to build great startups. Put simply we create startups that might otherwise not exist. We just can’t get enough of empowering our founders to solve real problems with clever solutions. We also love to get up close and personal with our founders so we help them across the board with product guidance, business strategy, marketing campaigns, legal advice, future finance, you name it!
We are looking for incredibly talented individuals with a desire to be part of revolution rather than a number on the payroll. We consider all levels of experience so if you feel like you’re up for the challenge get in touch!

How we work:

We live and breathe agile development, so if you have some experience that would be a great start! You’ll be joining ucreate’s fast growing team based in London, Chandigarh and Krakow, so be prepared for a fast moving environment. No two days are the same and that’s exactly how we like it. That said we do have some processes we like to follow. Firstly we structure our work into epics and sprints so be sure to understand what they are before you apply. Secondly our development is driven by behavior, so you’ll need to have an adaptable mind to understand the problems and define the requirements. Finally we are open and transparent, that means nothing is hidden internally or from the client.

Still interested? Let’s see what your role entails!

The fun stuff you’ll actually be doing:

  • Execute full lifecycle software development in a self-sufficient manner.
  • Write well designed, testable, efficient code.
  • Produce specifications and determine feature feasibility.
  • Develop unit tests for own or others code when necessary.
  • Review code for bugs and defects including security loopholes within the logical structures.
  • Comply with project plans and industry standards.
  • Guide and coach other Software Engineers to efficiently develop robust code.
  • Debug issues in production environment and fix promptly.
  • Impact the product roadmap with founder by suggesting elegant and technically valid and cost effective solutions.
  • Be proud of yours and your team daily achievement, ready to talk about it at conference, meetups, hackathons and internal presentations.
  • Take ownership of the quality of code that we ship. You'll help us develop, maintain and enforce coding standards across a range of our projects.
  • Take responsibility and look for solutions rather than blame others or circumstances for problems that will inevitably

What we need and what you have:

  • +5 years experience in PHP
  • 2-3 years experience with any of mainstream PHP frameworks (Laravel, CakePHP, Code igniter, Symphony)
  • Experience with Heroku and Github
  • Experience with error tracking software (we use Rollbar)
  • Expert in relational databases and database design. (MySQL and / or Postages)
  • Basics of web security (ssl, xss, cors, csrf, sql injection)
  • Front end technologies (any of jQuery, react, angular)
  • General familiarity with Agile Dev Environment, CI, MVPs, Lean, Kanban.
  • Knowledge of HTTP protocol
  • Experience working with and creating web APIs
  • Fluent in English

Why you’ll love us:

  • You’ll actually be part of something amazing (we build great startups!)
  • Mentorship is a given so you’ll actually learn something
  • Imagine more opportunities than you can shake a stick at and that’s about right
  • You have full autonomy over your efforts (so give yourself a real challenge)
  • No one at ucreate is too ‘senior’ to give their time or speak with you
  • We listen to your ideas and empower you to make the right decisions
  • Satisfaction is guaranteed if you work as hard as your cv says you do (if happy clients and exceptional products aren’t for you, you need not apply)

Few words of caution:

In this role you will take over one of our projects as a lead developer. You'll be expected to take full responsibility for overall architecture, uptime and refactoring initiatives. You'll also have a say in assembling your project team. You'll be one of the first people to join ucreate team in Poland, so you'll also be expected to be a great collegue, who gets along well with others.
You'll be an employee no. 3 in Krakow with a CTO and Front end extraordinaire already onboard. They can lend you a hand in a critical situation, but you'll be expected to be self reliant for the majority of the time.
In your day to day you'll be a trusted technical advisor to startup founders, and you'll take care of architecture level decisions. You need to be able translate technical jargon into plain English, so that you can communicate directly with our clients. Please don't apply if you're looking for a role where you can "get by".

If this is not something you think you'd handle well – please apply to one of our regular or junior roles.
